Homepico Country Houses

The houses are located in Santa Luzia, close to the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
From their surroundings one can contemplate the extensive lava fields of Lajido de Santa Luzia, the “currais” fencing the vines planted on the cracks of the basalt slabs, the “currais” around the fig trees, the diversity of the local fauna and flora, the Pico mountain, the islands of Faial and São Jorge and the Atlantic ocean.
These are former rural dwellings, conforming to traditional architecture, built of basalt stone and whose rehabilitation respected their original layout, while providing the interiors with all the comfort of modernity.
The traditional construction, using basalt stones, provides the houses with a naturally pleasurable atmosphere, cool in summer, dry and comfortable on wet and cold days.
The houses stand on ample lands, with outside spaces enabling the enjoyment of nature, yet affording the utmost privacy.
Their immediate surroundings preserve vestiges of the rural ways of life, there remaining elements of the traditional architecture such as rainwater cisterns, grinding mills and oxcart shelters.
